Introduction

The National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted on behalf of University Grants Commission (UGC) for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Eligibility of Assistant Professorship, Junior Research Fellowship or both, for Indian Universities and Colleges.

Until June 2018, the NET was conducted by CBSE in 84 subjects at 91 cities across the country. Thereafter from December 2018 onwards, the UGC- NET is being conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The National Testing Agency (NTA) has been established by Ministry of Education MoE (Earlier Ministry of Human Resource Development- MHRD) as an independent/ autonomous, self-reliant and self-sustained premier testing organization. It has been entrusted by UGC and Ministry of Education, Government of India with the responsibility of conducting the UGC-NET examination.

Awarding of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and/ or Eligibility for Assistant Professorship depends on the aggregate performance of the candidate in Paper-I and Paper-II of UGC-NET. The candidates qualifying only for Assistant Professorship are not to be considered for the awarding of JRF. Candidates who qualify the eligibility test for Assistant Professorship are governed by the rules and regulations for recruitment of Assistant Professor of the concerned universities/colleges/state governments, as the case may be.

UGC-NET is conducted twice every year. However in 2020 due to the pandemic, the June 2020 examination got delayed and was deferred to September 2020 until November 2020 to cover all the subjects. The December 2020 cycle had to be postponed and is now being conducted in March-April 2021

The NTA will conduct the next UGC-NET exam for Junior Research Fellowship and eligibility for Assistant Professor on 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 14 and 17 May 2021.

Paper Marks Number of Questions (MCQ Format) and Timing of First shift is 09:00 am to 12:00 pm (IST)  and Timing of Second shift is 03:00 pm to 06:00 pm (IST).

The Test will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode only.

The candidates who desire to appear in the Test may see the details in the Information Bulletin for UGC-NET December 2020 Cycle (May 2021) which will be available on the website www.nta.ac.in, and https://ugcnet.nta.nic.in from 02 February, 2021.

The online application form will open on 02 February 2021.

Candidates who desire to appear for the exam are required to apply online between the dates 02 February 2021 to 02 March 2021.

The Application Fees can be paid upto 03 March 2021.
