GOVERNMENT OF INDIA, OFFERS STANDING OPPORTUNITY THROUGH
FELLOWSHIPS AT THE LEVEL SAME AS NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY TEST
(NET) QUALIFIED CANDIDATES.
Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) is a Program launched by the Government of India to strengthen the National Science and Technology base. It is being implemented by the Department of Science and Technology (DST). It includes three components namely Scheme for Early Attraction of Talents for Science (SEATS), Scholarships for Higher Education (SHE) and Assured Opportunity for Research Careers (AORC). The Scheme AORC is focused on attraction of student to pursue doctoral degree in basic and applied sciences including engineering, medicine, agriculture, veterinary,
pharmacy etc. after either masters’ degree in science or bachelor/ masters’ degree in engineering/ applied sciences.
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS:
Applications are invited from First Rank holders in the Post Graduate Degrees in Basic and Natural Sciences OR Degree in Engineering Sciences/ Medical Sciences/ Pharmaceutical Sciences/ Agricultural Sciences/ Veterinary Sciences of any recognized Indian University or Institute/ Statutory Body in India for award of INSPIRE FELLOWSHIP and appropriate research grants for a maximum period of five years for doing full-time research leading to Ph.D.degree. Application format and necessary documents required are available on the website: www.inspire-dst.gov.in.
ELIGIBILITY:
Only 1st rank holder in each Post-Graduate (PG) level examinations in Basic/ Natural Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Medical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Sciences at the University and academic Institutions who are eligible for admission and want to pursue research, leading to Ph.D., in any Indian University/ National Institute/ National laboratories in India will be eligible for this fellowship. 1st Rank holder in College including Autonomous College examination are not eligible.
Similarly, 1st Rank holders at Graduate level examination in Engineering Sciences and other Professional courses conducted by a University/ Institution in India are also eligible to apply for directly pursuing doctoral degree.
Candidates who are only Indian Citizen and have acquired their required qualifications necessary for admission to the PhD program during 2011 i.e. January to December 2011 are only eligible. However, students who are already enjoying Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) or higher position in any project need not to apply for this.
AMOUNT & DURATION OF FELLOWSHIP:
It offers financial support in the form of a Fellowship equivalent to NET/ GATE fellowship (Junior Research Fellowship / Senior Research Fellowship) and research grant to the candidate. The Fellowship is tenable for a maximum period of five years, subject to the completion of the Ph.D degree whichever is earlier. However, continuation of the Fellowship for once selected candidates is based on satisfactory performance certified by the institution as per stipulated GOI
guidelines for such Fellowship.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Selection for INSPIRE Fellowship shall be purely on the basis of academic merit of the candidate, choice of the Supervisor, Host Institutions and the Research Proposal.
All interested and eligible candidates must apply in the prescribed A4 size format along with documents as listed in the Annexure 1 to 3. Applications should be sent by Post only and shall be addressed to

I thing first publish result for they applied people and then update monthly…[last year I saw the final selection list.. they update every month]..

Sir, I have applied for Ph.D in IISC, Bangalore this session through Inspire fellowship. Also applied for Fellowship after the January advertisement. The results are not yet out for the fellowship. I have already lost two opportunities to join Ph.D. I fear, this time also it would be delayed. I would be obligued to know when the provisional results will be out.

I had appeared and passed the M Sc examination of Madras University in 2010. But the university declared the ranks only by the end of Feb 2011 and the rank certificate was provided only after March 5, 2011 (the rank certificate is dated Mar 5) I had seen the call for application for dst fellowship in feb 2011, but could not apply as I did not have the rank certificate. The applications were received only up to the first week of Mar 2012 or so if I remember correctly. There were no bars for those applications such as passing years etc. as in this years applications which could be also accepted throughout the year. The sudden application of the bar on those who passed/reeceived the certificates after 2010 because of no fault of the candidates without giving them an opportunity was patently indiscriminate and uncalled for. I understand from this years' rejetion list that more that 50 of such candidates applications have been rejected for this reason and many may follow. I fell that all such people must take up their cases with either with the Secretary, Dept of Science of Technology (dst@nic.dot.in) or with the Dr Ashani Kumar, Minister of State for Science & Technology, Govt of India or with Mr Vilasrao Deshmukh, Minister for Science & Technology immjediately. Once my name appears in the rejection list because of this reson I will do it.

I would like to ask one future prospect question, that if I am selected for INSPIRE fellowship and start receiving the fellowship amount and if after completion of 1-1.5 0r 2 yrs if due to any reasons I wish to leave PhD then what are Terms & Conditions in such case?
Whether they are asking to pay back the received amount? Or they are allowing to leave PhD without any hurdle?

Please guide about the contengency grant provided in Inspire fellowship as it is written that it is equivalent to Net fellowship holders but the contengency of Net fellows has been upgraded to 1 lac per annum and Inspire fellows is getting only 20000 per annum.

As per INSPIRE norm you can sent the Joining cum acceptance letter before the validity date end. I don't know surely about after validity date? you can enquiry INSPIRE via mail given in INSPIRE website…

Bt I have to be admitted for PhD. I am expempted from PET.(pune university). bt i have to wait for PET formalities and it takes arround 1 yr so may my vaidity get over. SO WHAT TO DO.?????????????????????????????????????

Is their any possibilty for provisional registration. If possible then provisionally registerd and then send their documents.. All the best..
