Results of the State Eligibility Test (SET) April 2011 of the University Grants Commission, conducted by Bharathiar University, which is the nodal centre, were published onMay 24, 201.
Out of the 41,164 who appeared, 1,396 candidates passed the test. This is 3.39 per cent of the total pass percentage, according to a release from the university. A total of 50,629 had applied for the test.
Out of the 1,396, 100 belong to the general category, 799 from Backward Classes/ physically challenged/ visually challenged, and 398 from Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes.
As many as 673 candidates cleared the Tamil paper, 213 cleared the English paper and 194 the management paper.
No candidate from the chemical sciences, geography, Hindi, library and information sciences, mathematical sciences, and physical sciences, cleared the test.
However, those who had chosen bio-technology, economics, physical education, journalism and mass communication, had performed better than the previous tests.
“The pass percentages in 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008 were 0.68 per cent, 0.85 per cent, 2.20 per cent and 2.19 per cent respectively. This year there is a laudable improvement,” Vice-Chancellor C. Swaminathan said.
