Ph.D and I-Ph.D Admissions 2013
(ACADEMIC PROGRAMME STARTING AUGUST 2013)
TCIS, TIFR Hyderabad invites applications for summer admissions to its PhD and Integrated PhD degree programmes. The doctoral programme at TCIS, TIFR Hyderabad offers exciting research opportunities in a range of subject areas, and rigorous training aimed at fostering the broad academic growth of the students and to meet the specialized needs of their research. The students will receive a degree through the appropriate subject board of the graduate school of TIFR.
Current research activities at TCIS are in the areas of Soft Condensed Matter Physics, Fluid Dynamics, Materials, Chemical Sciences and Optics. Sophisticated experimental facilities involving lasers, NMR and high performance computation support research at TCIS. These activities are expected to experience rapid growth in the near future to include other areas including biology.
GRADUATE SCHOOL GS 2013:
Stipend:
Ph.D.: Students receive a monthly scholarship of Rs 16,000/- (enhanced to Rs 18,000/- after registration) and an annual contingency grant of Rs 20,000/-.
Integrated Ph.D. : Students receive a monthly scholarship of Rs 16,000/- (enhanced to Rs 18,000/- from third year onwards, subject to passing the Comprehensive Exam / registration ) and an annual contingency grant of Rs 20,000/-.
Accommodation is provided to Ph.D. and Integrated Ph.D. students only, at a nominal cost.
ELIGIBILITY:
Under the Physics Subject Board::
- For Ph.D.: M.Sc. in Physics / B.E. / B.Tech. / M.E. / M.Tech. or equivalent science / engineering / medical degree that require 4 or more years of University Training.
- For I-Ph.D.: B.Sc./ M.Sc. (Other than Physics) / B.E. / B.Tech / MBBS / B.Pharm or equivalent science / engineering / medical degree
In addition the candidate must have qualified in any of the following examinations:
The written test of TIFR (2012 or 2013), GATE (Minimum score of 420 in 2012-2013 ) / JEST (rank of 100 and below) / CSIR UGC NET (JRF eligible).
Chemistry (Ph.D. programme):
- For Ph.D. programme: M.Sc. in Chemistry, B.E., B.Tech., M.Tech., B.Pharm., M.Pharm
In addition the candidate must have qualified in any of the following examinations:
The written test of TIFR (2012 or 2013), GATE (Minimum score of 420 in 2012-2013) / CSIR UGC NET (JRF eligible).
ADMISSION PROCEDURE:
The admission procedure consists of an interview in June 2013. Selected candidates (based on their earlier academic performance and in the qualifying tests mentioned above) will be called for a personal interview during 10th to 22nd of June, 2013 which will be held at TCIS, Hyderabad.
